Now, before anything else, let’s start by trying to understand what Finance is, not just the textbook definition but in the context of how it is related to you, your business, banks and the government.
A textbook definition of Finance would be something like, “Finance is the field focused on managing assets and liabilities over time, regardless of certainty or uncertainty. It involves overseeing funds, investments, and various financial tools to enhance wealth and fulfill financial objectives.”
But what does that mean?
The Stryf Online definition is a little different. To us, finance is the actions that you need to take in order to manage your wealth and assets in this world of increasing expenses and regulations.
These actions include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring regulatory compliance (taxes, business licenses, etc.)
- Risk management, including credit, market, and operational risks.
- Recording, analyzing, and reporting financial transactions.
- Preparation of financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Financial planning and decision-making, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Evaluating investment opportunities.
When your finances are in order, if it might seem like it isn’t such a big deal. However, if your finances are not in order, every one of those actions can be a daunting and time-consuming process.
